It's Hard to Sing the Blues (new arrangement 2011)

The initial song was written with a bluegrass feel.  The song was based on the premis that it was hard to write and sing songs in the Blues genre when everything in my life seemed to be going so well.   It was a fun, light and airy piece, and was recorded as such on the My Own Man CD.  Somehow it felt unfinished.  Some songs are that way, they take time to develope themselves into what they were truely meant to be.  After returning from Memphis in the spring of 2009, my senses were exploding from all of the Blues I'd been innundated with over the course of the trip.  Somewhere, while rehearseing this song (which then felt a bit hokey), the premis of singing it in a blues format immerged, sort of an irony of "It's Hard to Sing the Blues"  in the blues!

IT’S HARD TO SING THE BLUES 5-7-08 MLS May 2008

It’s hard to sing the blues, when someone loves you.

It’s hard to drag your feet upon a cloud.

It’s hard to sing the blues, when your heart’s not broke in two,

It’s hard to sing the blues, when you’re in Love.

It’s hard to sing the blues, when you’re so happy,

‘Cause someone else, thinks the world of you.

It’s really hard to frown, when your frown’s turned up-side-down,

It’s hard to sing the blues, when you’re in Love.

Lady, you’ve set my world on fire.

My empty heart’s now laden with desire.

With your love so sweet, you make me feel complete,

It’s hard to sing the blues, when you’re in Love.

How is it that, I can feel so giddy.

When all my life I’ve lived in so much pain.

Now every day is bright, ‘cause it’s filled up with your light,

Instead of being filled up with the rain.
